PRESS RELEASE For more information contact: New E-Commerce Site Focuses on Data Acquisition and Process Control Wilmington, MA (March 2, 1998). LTC, pioneer in the field of high performance data acquisition and process control software, today announced the opening of the LTC Online Store. Located at http://www.labtech.com, the online store is a secure Web site that allows purchase of the company's data acquisition and control software products, NOTEBOOK, NOTEBOOKpro, CONTROL, CONTROLpro, Realtime VISIONpro, and upgrades to those products. The LTC Online Store provides ordering capability as well as immediate download of the purchased software after verification of the customer's credit card. This results in a drastic reduction in cycle time for control software purchasing, reducing a process which usually takes a few days (or weeks, for international orders) to a matter of minutes. "Making our data acquisition and process control software available via a secure electronic commerce Web site provides our customers with immediate worldwide access to urgently needed products," said Dr. Fred A. Putnam, President of LTC. "Our goals are two-fold...to reduce the time it takes our customers to get up and running with their measurement and control applications, and to make sure we address the number one issue facing the world of e-commerce...security. We do this by making use of the latest Internet technologies to secure all online purchase transactions." The LTC Web site relies on Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption to secure online transactions, such as credit card purchases of the company's software. The SSL protocol provides authentication the company's Web servers and the Web browsers of its customers. The protocol also ensures confidentiality and data integrity by encrypting the data being sent in a communication session between server and browser, thus keeping unauthorized users from intercepting and viewing the data. SSL secures the communications channel by operating in the network stack—between the application layer and the TCP/IP transport and network layers. The LTC Web site also provides a wide range of information on the company and its data acquisition and process control software products. These include product literature, downloadable demos, current pricing, tech tips from the customer service group, FAQs, example applications, a list of supported data acquisition hardware (over 1000 devices from more than 50 manufacturers), and contact information for LTC's distributors and resellers. Since 1981, LTC, formerly known as LABTECH Corporation, has been keeping scientists and engineers on the cutting edge of data acquisition and control with their products: NOTEBOOK, NOTEBOOKpro, CONTROL, and CONTROLpro. First to leverage the World Wide Web for remote access to real-time applications, LTC focuses on providing innovative software for end-users, systems integrators, and OEMs in manufacturing, automated test, and laboratory automation. |
