Open Data Acquisition Association
Announces New President and
Conference Participation at Electro '99

Stamford, CT (April 26, 1999). The Open Data Acquisition Association, a group of leading manufacturers responsible for developing interoperable standards between PC-based data acquisition products, today announced the appointment of Dr. Frederick A. Putnam as President of the organization. Dr. Putnam is also  President of LABTECH Corp., a pioneer in the field of high performance data acquisition and process control software.

"The focus of ODAA is the continuing development of the Open Data Acquisition Standard," said Dr. Putnam. "As the Association and the standard grow and mature, we will maintain our goal of providing data acquisition customers with choices. Real choices based on real, open standards. As a result, using ODAS-compliant products will allow developers of PC-based data acquisition systems to select products from multiple vendors and easily integrate them into a single measurement system. A dream come true in any market."

Electro 1999 Conference Sessions

The  ODAA also announced its participation in the Electro 1999 conference, June 15-17, 1999, at the Bayside Convention Center in Boston, MA. Dr. Putnam will represent the

group, giving two talks during the conference. The first,  entitled "ODAS: A New Standard for the PC Data Acquisition Hardware/Software Interface," will be held on June 15, 1999, at 1:30pm. This session will provide attendees with an overview of the Open Data Acquisition Standard, a new  API currently under development for interfacing plug-in data acquisition cards and software. Dr. Putnam will cover all aspects of ODAS, the need for a standard, design objectives, technical description of the standard, and how ODAS relates to other industry standards, such as OPC and IVI. A live demonstration of how the standard is used in practice will also be provided.

The Association will also participate in a roundtable discussion entitled, "Instrumentation & Measurement: The Next Millennium," to be held on June 15, 1999, at 10am. The panel will include Dr. Fred Putnam, President of LABTECH Corp. and the Open Data Acquisition Association; Fred Molinari, President  of Data Translation and a founding member of the Association; and several distinguished members of the editorial community.
